August beauty - Summer Beauty round up-6

My Summer Beauty Round-Up

With sweltering August weather in full swing, it’s the perfect time to pare back your beauty regimen. So, I have rounded up my favorite summer beauty products (hair, makeup and a few skincare-ish items) that will keep you looking pretty with minimal effort well into September.

The Charlie Bird - Summer Beauty

Herbivore Sea Mist. I just discovered this hair spritz a few months ago and don’t know how I ever lived without it! Spray on damp hair, twist into a bun and let it air dry. That’s it! When you take your hair down, your locks will have a beachy, slightly sexy, tousled look. The best part? No blow dryer (or effort) required. And bonus – it smells divine (think coconuts and sea spray).

That’s it for hair – the shortest list ever. Moving on to makeup.

This list is longer than the hair list (obviously), but is super pared down when you think about it. With these ten products, you can go anywhere and do anything. (I could have whittled it down to eight, but I like choices when it comes to my lips and cheeks. And hey – it’s my list! 😉 ) Besides, just think about the number of products stuffed in your makeup bag, sprawled across your vanity and packed into your bathroom at this very moment. Exactly.

Becca Beach Tint in Raspberry. I am seriously addicted to this lip and chink tint combo. In fact, it may be my favorite beauty product ever.  The color is gorgeous, not to mention buildable and long-lasting. It gives cheeks the loveliest natural flush and gives lips the perfect berry-ish tint (like you just ate a raspberry popsicle). It’s perfect for your beach bag, handbag or makeup bag.

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint. Apparently, I love lip/cheek tint duos. This one has a creamier texture than Becca Beach Tint and helps plump up skin while adding a swoosh of color. (I like the Very Popular shade for a natural, pink flush.) This product is super easy to use and gives you serious glow. It works better as a creamy blush than it does as a lip color, but it’s nice to have the option.

Glossier Cloud Paint. Another easy to use, creamy/gel blush product. (There is a theme developing here.) As its name (sorta) indicates, this is like finger paint for your face. My favorite shades (Puff and Beam) provide subtle color for a natural, pretty look. The color is buildable so apply as much or as little as you like. Cloud Paint does triple duty too since you can swipe it over your lids and lips if you are so inclined. Plus, this is impossible to mess up, even for me.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss. When you want a little gloss (and who doesn’t?!), try this. It isn’t so glossy that you look tween-ish, but provides the perfect amount of shine plus a bit of volume to boot. I use the Sheer Pink Shine “color” but all three shades are quite sheer.

Glossier Boy Brow. The only eyebrow product you will ever need. It magically adjusts to your exact coloring, fills in sparse areas and tames unruly brows. For literally five seconds of effort, you get gorgeous, perfectly polished brows. The packaging is similar to mascara – just brush the wand through your eyebrows and voila! It is hands down the best, easiest to use brow product I have ever tried.

Dior Iconic Mascara. The perfect mascara. It gives your lashes volume, length and a bit of curl. Results are natural looking too – never clumpy or overly curled. Plus, it’s smudge-proof. What more could you ask for?

Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream Sunscreen (SPF 50). This is the only BB cream I use anymore. It melts into your skin (not off of it) and provides lightweight, natural looking coverage, all while providing stellar SPF protection. Plus, your skin will still look like, well, skin. No creepy mannequin face here.

Tata Harper Illuminating Moisturizer. While not technically makeup, I wear this in place of BB cream often enough that I I decided to include it on my list.  This lovely moisturizer is loaded with all sorts of goodies for your skin, but it is the “illuminating” part that interests me right now.  Thanks to diamond dust, this moisturizer reflects light so you look radiant. Plus, it has a subtle, pearl-pink tint that blurs away imperfections. It’s like a tinited moisurizer, only way better. Wear it alone or pair it with BB cream for a truly flawless look. Genius.

Dior Fix It 2-in-1 Prime & Conceal Concealer. For those times you need a little touch-up.  It is a primer and concealer in one, so it stays put even on the hottest summer day. Use it under your eyes, on your lids, on the sides of your nose, over spots – basically anywhere you need a dab of coverage.

Benefit Hello Flawless Powder. I almost left powder (especially a pressed powder) off this list. Summer is all about dewy, glowy radiance, right? Well, with the heat of August bearing down upon us, sometimes your t-zone needs more than BB cream and a prayer. Use this powder to both set your makeup and absorb extra shine. It works equally well with a brush or sponge. As a bonus, it is not super expensive, so you won’t be devastated if it breaks during a night out.

Skincare & Sun Protection

I am a bit of a skincare junkie, so I had to add in a sunscreen and a couple of great skincare products. These three little products will protect you from the sun, provide instant glow and hydration, and give you post-sun relief.

Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. I talk about this product a lot, but only because it is that good! Spritz throughout the day to quench dehydrated skin or spray over makeup for instant glow. It is also a great pick-me-up for makeup that has gone flat and cakey.  To read more about it, check out this post.

Herbivore After Sun. Think of this as aloe 2.0 in a spray bottle. (Spritz addicts rejoice!) A combination of aloe, mint, lavender and witch hazel, it has an immediate cooling effect and provides instant relief for sunburnt skin. I keep one in my beach bag to use during the day and one in the fridge for some seriously refreshing spritzing action at home.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Oil-Free Dry Touch Sunscreen. I would be remiss if I failed to include a sunscreen as part of an August beauty routine. A broad spectrum, high SPF sunscreen is the only way protect yourself from sunburns, skin cancer, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation – you get the idea.  I love this one because it absorbs quickly and isn’t greasy. It plays well with makeup too. I prefer to keep my sunscreen separate from my moisturizer, but if you want a lightweight moisturizer/sunscreen combo, try La Roche-Posay Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer (SPF 30). It helps repair your skin’s moisture barrier, absorbs quickly and provides adequate sun protection on days you are office-bound instead of beach-bound.

Closing Thoughts

These picks will keep you fresh and pretty, plus save you a ton of time. So step away from the mirror, put down that hair dryer and get summering! Happy August!
