My guy’s family country house is one of my favorite spots in the entire world. I hold my experiences there very close to my heart. It is as lovely as it is welcoming. Located across the Vermont border in Canada’s Eastern Townships, it is a place for family and friends to enjoy each other’s company and take time for the simple pleasures in life.Maple trees planted by the family’s patriarch line the entrance to the property. The moment you find yourself under this canopy of leaves, a feeling of tranquility rushes over you. With its 1800s farmhouse, vegetable patch, outdoor living spaces, walking trails, stables, and spectacular views, it is an incredibly special place. You will find Adirondack chairs scattered throughout the property, encouraging you to slow down, take in the view and enjoy a glass of wine.
The vibe is laid back. Children, horses and dogs run the show. (But mostly the dogs.) At some point, dirt, dog hair or worse will inevitably find its way to your clothes. But you won’t really care. And this is coming from a rather city-fied kind of girl. It is a place like no other.
This particular day was one of those dreamy, lazy summer days that gets you through the bleakness of February. I meandered around the property and lounged by the pool. I indulgently napped in the gazebo and chatted with family over a bit of wine. Late in the afternoon, I picked vegetables and herbs for the salad. (By the way – It took me an hour to make this salad. I wasn’t sure why it took so long until I saw these snaps. I have no less than three different types of wine in front of me during said salad-making! Mystery solved! 😉 )
The property is charming, but the real magic comes from the friends and family who congregate here. It is truly come as you are – even when (or perhaps especially when) you are at your worst. I feel incredibly blessed to be welcomed into such a loving, beautiful family and am thrilled to share my excursions in the country with you.
I am wearing a darling fit and flare, striped seersucker dress with grosgrain ribbon and key hole detail. Light and airy, it is the perfect choice for a summer day wandering the countryside. It has pockets too! When shoes are necessary, I opted for patent navy t-strap sandals. These compliment the color and simplicity of the dress. My standard accessories (pearls studs, a simple headband and oversized sunnies) finish the look.
