OY-L Manuka Mask - OYL - Rose Petals

A Most Addictive Face Mask

For the past month, I have been using OY-L’s Exfoliating Manuka Mask 2-3 times per week. OY-L’s products are 100% natural and totally chemical free, which is phenomenal if the product actually works. Fortunately for us, this one works brilliantly.

The base of the mask is Manuka honey, which has medical grade anti-microbial properties that regular honey does not have. This type of honey zaps bacteria, so it helps treat and prevent acne. It is also an anti-inflammatory, which means it has a calming effect on blotchy, red or otherwise angry skin.  (Manuka honey is the by-product of bees pollinating the Manuka bush – aka the tea tree, which gives it tea tree oil-like properties. Pretty neat, huh?)

The mask is also packed with so many other goodies that I don’t even know where to begin. These are the highlights. Blueberry and cranberry seeds exfoliate the skin, sloughing away dead skin cells to eliminate dullness. Willow bark extract (another exfoliant) fights acne, softens skin and controls excess sebum production. The mask also contains organic rose petals, which counteract redness and leave skin insanely soft. So soft, in fact, that there is a 100% chance you will begin asking people to touch your face. Organic lavender buds produce a calming scent to relieve stress. (Before this product, I was never an aromatherapy kind of girl. However, every time I use this product, this insomniac is fast asleep within an hour. Needless to say, I am a convert.)

At first glance, this mask is a little intimidating because it contains actual bits of seeds and flowers. I thought this might make the application process challenging or messy, but it is neither. Just mix a generous dollop with a few drops of warm water in the palm of your hand. Give it a swirl and apply to a clean face in circular motions. Keep the motion up for 30 seconds or so and then let the mask sit for 20 minutes. Even though you apply this with your fingers, you should still use a silicone application brush to get the product out of the jar to avoid bacterial contamination. (If you still are not convinced that you need to use a brush when applying your masks, read this post.)

To Use or Not to Use? (Hint: Definitely Use!)

This product leaves skin remarkably smooth, healthy-looking and radiant. And insanely soft. I know I mentioned that already but it bears mentioning again. (I’m talking tiny, new baby soft, people!) Plus, the smell is divine – totally intoxicating and soothing. With regular use (or heck, after one or two uses), your skin will be happy and very glowy.

I am keeping this in my regular – albeit slightly crowded – face mask rotation. It is the perfect complement to my trifecta of Tata Harper masks (this, this and this). But I am a face mask junkie. OY-L’s Exfoliating Manuka Mask is phenomenal all on its own.

In other words, I will be using this mask multiple times a week, each and every week, for the rest of my life. Everything about it is simply addictive. The smell and texture alone are enough to make me go back for more, but the fact that it is so effective blows my mind. In short, I highly recommend this to anyone with skin.

Happy (Mask) Monday!

xo, Eva
