The “jardin” print from Kate Spade is without a doubt my favorite print so far this year. Something about the sweet floral and hummingbird motif appeals to my girly side in a major way. Set against a black backdrop, the print pops and is totally brilliant.
This print is available in a number of options, but my favorites are a twirl-able layered skirt and a cotton poplin dress with pockets. I am notoriously indecisive, so when “eeny meeny miney mo” didn’t work, I ended up taking both pieces home. 😉
The skirt is stunning, with layers of understated ruffles that you can dress up or down. As a bonus, the slightest breeze causes it to billow a bit, which creates that “I am being followed by a fan” look.
I opted for a casual look here, pairing the skirt with a lightweight crewneck sweater in navy. I love wearing navy and black together, especially with a pretty print. (Remember when Elle Woods said, “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed”? That is exactly how I feel about the bonehead who propagated the so-called rule about navy and black.)I finished the look with my go-to pointy gold flats (also worn here, here), pearl studs and a structured pink handbag. (This bag is one of my favorites. I also wore it with this super casual look here.)
The dress in the same print is gorgeous and its A-line shape is ridiculously flattering. I adore the way it hugs your figure until it poofs out at the skirt, which has two hidden pockets. I kept the accessories minimal – the print is so lovely and the lace inset around the bodice and skirt is so delicate that I didn’t want anything to detract from it.
I carried the same handbag with both the dress and the skirt, since the pink color really pops against the print. I switched out the shoes, swapping flats for an elegant pair of nude patent leather stiletto sandals. The nude color and high heel balances out the proportions and provides a “legs for days” illusion. Easy peasy!
Both the skirt and dress have classic silhouettes, while the charming print adds a serious dose of whimsy to these otherwise simple pieces. As a bonus, both will look great well into the fall. What more can a girl ask for?!
