Packing for the beach is an art, not a science. Though I am the first to admit I can go a bit overboard when packing a beach bag (or packing for anything actually– see here for my nightmare weekend packing challenge), I do know that you need to be strategic. I mean, when you are looking to spend a few hours by the sea, the last thing you want to do is run back to the house every time you realize you left something behind.

With that, I present my beach tote – the perfectly stocked bag for any sandy outing.

My Essentials

Banago Tote. This year, I am loving this woven beach tote – it holds a ton and has fun poms. It is available in all sorts of patterns and colors too.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 (Daily anti-aging primer with sunscreen). Leave that greasy facial sunscreen to the amateurs. This has a high SPF plus blurring effect that keeps you looking pretty and sunburn free. Need I say more?

Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. When your skin feels like it could use a gulp of water, spritz this over your face, neck and décolletage. It is loaded with hydrating goodies so you will never feel like a raisin again. Brilliant.

Sunnies – Faves + Beachy Pair. This might sound crazy, but I like to bring an extra pair of sunglasses to the beach. Today, I wore my regular pair from Robert Marc (similar here and here) and brought a cute, inexpensive pair to wear in the water. This way, you don’t have to fret over losing that favorite pair that “they” don’t make anymore. (My never-ending fear.) This round pair (white with metallic arms) is a great find that looked pretty adorbs with today’s bathing suit. I like to stock up on fun picks like this since they always come in handy. If you don’t need them, someone else will. (And you will probably need them anyway.)

Sweater. I like bringing a lightweight sweater or long sleeved tee like this nautical-inspired one. It comes in handy when you are getting a bit too much sun, but aren’t ready to leave (or move).

Hair Ties + Headband. Never leave home without them. I really like these hair ties with bows, particularly in  white eyelet and chambray. They are a nice break from the Goodie bands. When your hair is down, a plain jane headband ensures your tresses stay out of your eyes while you work on your beach hair.

Vaseline Rosy Lip Therapy.  Super hydrating to prevent chapped lips from all the wind. Since it comes in this handy little pot, you don’t have to worry about a sticky, melting mess after sitting in the sun. I put this on after sunscreen.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. I have stashes of this stuff everywhere, including my beach bag. The packaging is great if you are going to be out in the sun. (Try the minty version.)

Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Rosy 22. Purely because I’m pathological. I can never leave the house without some form of lip gloss, and I love this bright pink color for the beach.

Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats headphones. I love these Bluetooth headphones. They are perfect for jamming on your own, ignoring people and naps. The Bluetooth means you can leave your phone at the bottom of the bag so it won’t overheat. These are sweat resistant too and won’t fall out. Rock on.

Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set.  This set includes two perfectly-sized zipped cases in a huge selection of colors. (Mine is pistachio.) Today, I brought the smaller of the pair to hold the aforementioned essentials. Did I mention they are monogrammable? Win!

Sperry boat shoes. You never know.

Jack Rogers. When it is too hot to walk straight on the sand. It is probably overkill to bring 2 pairs of shoes, but I already told you I am a compulsive over-packer. 😉

Toucan Collection Sunhat. I love this hat with a nice-sized brim and a cream bow.  It is truly packable – no matter how much you smoosh it, it always pops back. A must.

Kindle Voyager + Cover . Beach reading. I don’t think I need to elaborate here.

Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen Spray. I bring obscene amounts. I love this SPF 70 spray from Neutrogena. It is water-resistant and practically sweat-proof. Bring at least 3 cans, just in case.

Ta-da! A perfectly packed bag for a perfect day by the sea. (Water and rosè not included.)

What are your beach bag must-haves? Leave a comment and let me know what else you bring!

xo, Eva
